Our mission is to offer families the opportunity to donate tissue.

The Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria supports patients and their families by providing safe tissues for transplantation and medical research.

The core function of the DTBV is to provide Australian surgeons with safe tissue grafts for transplantation in many areas of orthopaedic, cardiothoracic, reconstructive surgery and burn care, benefitting many patients every year.

The DTBV also helps researchers who require access to human tissue for the completion of ethically approved research projects, further advancing health and social care and teaching.

The services provided by the DTBV include:

  • Collection, processing and distribution of donated tissue from both living and deceased donors
  • Microbiology and Serology
  • Tissue donations for research.

The DTBV operates under both The Human Tissue Act 1982 and The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine Act 1985.
